A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
LaCrosse, located in southwest Whitman County, started when two railroads formed a junction in 1888 -- then came a section house, a store, and the town. It was incorporated in 1917. LaCrosse is 90 miles south of Spokane, 85 miles north of Walla Walla, 88 miles northeast of the Tri-Cities, 86 miles northwest of Lewiston, Idaho, and 46 miles west of Pullman.

In 1996, LaCrosse celebrated its 100-year anniversary. The town has a mayoral council type of government, an excellent volunteer fire department, and a fine group of emergency medical technicians. The LaCrosse area has numerous businesses, community groups, clubs, four churches, and a grade school and high school capable of handling many more students. LaCrosse was one of the first schools in the state to have computers in all the classrooms and has recently completely upgraded this system.
